HOW IT ALL STARTED
I have a love for the outdoors and hiking just seemed like the way to explore it with my kids. Getting out into the bush and hitting the trail makes me feel energised and full of life! Don't get me wrong, while I'm out there I'm cursing the uphills and groaning about the downhills but at the end of a hiking day I'm happy and content- my kids, not so much. (They are 2 teenage boys, so nothing makes them happy at the moment!)
My body started moaning and groaning and I ended up with a hip reconstruction. I knew if I wanted to continue hiking, I would have to make some changes.

WHY THE SHIFT TO ULTRALIGHT
My pack weighed about 18-22kg depending on how long I was going and how much food I was carrying. After watching about a million YouTube videos on ultralight gear lists and reviews I was converted. I knew my pack weight had to decrease.Â

WHAT WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE
There has been a huge shift to ultralight gear overseas but Australia is taking it's time catching up. Fabrics like Dyneema Composite Fabric or Cuben Fibre are nearly impossible to get here, along with other ultralight products hikers have access to overseas.
